The keys are made from strong vanadium steel with a corrosion-resistant blackened finish. Sizes over 4 mm have a chamfered edge that helps it fit smoothly into the head of whatever you're doing up or undoing, as well as preventing damage to the corners of the key or fastener head.
The gauge of the keys conforms to the DIN 911 standard. Hex keys are used in workshops, industrial settings and DIY projects to drive bolts and screws with hexagonal sockets.
