RS PRO Hexagon Head Self-Tapping Screw
From the trusted RS PRO brand, these zinc plated and passivated hardened steel Self-drilling screws offer all the advantages associated with standard self-tapping screws but are capable of drilling their own pilot holes into sheet metal up to 5mm in thickness. As it has a flange head, it doesn't require a washer to distribute the pressure of the nut.
This hexagonal self-tapping screw features a wide thread and robust hardened steel drill point.
Features and Benefits
Self-tapping screw with hexagonal head
Zinc-plated steel for corrosion protection in indoor applications
Flange head to distribute the load
To DIN 7504
Applications
Self-drilling screws, often called self-tapping screws, have advantages over conventional screws in that they eliminate the need to drill a pilot hole before insertion. This can save both time and effort in many fastening applications, while delivering the same security and versatility of a conventional screw. Self-drilling screws should always be installed using a power-driver and are therefore particularly suited to fast production environments. They can be used in light and heavy gauge sheet metals, soft plastics etc, and are ideal for applications in heating and air conditioning, metal and fiberglass fabrication industries.
What are the advantages of hexagonal head screws?
Hexagonal heads typically have a larger head than conventional screws, which results in higher clamping pressure, which may be a concern when you need confidence in fixing surfaces together. They typically require a socket or spanner to tighten and loosen, which is often a less strenuous way to apply maximum torque than other drivers.
