Applications:
Laboratory coats or white coats are generally worn to prevent the wearer from being splashed by liquids and to prevent cross-contamination in more controlled environments. Wearing a lab coat as workwear is a common practice for many professionals, allowing them to work with the peace of mind that they are doing so with their safety in mind by wearing the correct personal protective clothing required. Most lab coats offer good barrier protection and are generally made from heavy-duty material to ensure basic protection from fire or chemical spills or splashes. They are most often used by:
Scientists and laboratory professionals
Medical professionals
Engineers
What coat sizes are available in this RS PRO range?
Can I wash my laboratory coat at home?
A general-purpose lab coat can be washed at home; however, it is important to consider the application that the coat is being used for and to be sensitive to the fact that when removing it from a controlled environment, it could cause cross-contamination.
Are laboratory coats considered part of PPE uniform?
Dependant on the application used for, lab coats are considered as part of PPE uniform. For engineering, laboratory or medical environments, lab coats are generally worn to give the wearer basic protection from liquids, splashes or bodily fluids and are considered as part of good personal protection practice. However, in more controlled environments like biohazard labs or cleanrooms where strict adherence to safety regulations is required, lab coats will be necessary as a regulated part of PPE uniform. Additionally, the lab coats must meet the correct standards and certifications to be suitable for those types of applications.
